Ovarian Cancer Treatment Benefits and Risks

Treatment and early detection:

The sad truth is that treatment works better on women with ovarian cancer when the cancer is detected early. The problem is that with ovarian cancer there is usually no signs or symptoms in the early stage of the disease. Usually cancer symptoms start being detectable at the time that it is spreading to other parts of the body. Once the cancer has spread the treatment is more complex. Tests such as routine pap smears, pelvic exams, rectal screening, ultrasound, x-ray and laparoscopy are used to help doctors detect tumors. Approximately 75% of women with ovarian cancer are not treated in the early stage. When detected in the early stage treatment is started immediately and these women have 90% survival rate.

Keeping on the career path with ovarian cancer inevitably begs the question whether or not you should let your coworkers and partners know about the disease. While this is your choice, it will provide a backdrop against which to address your requests and you may find that those above you in the company hierarchy are more willing to listen and let you try new things than if you simply begin requesting a lot of changes in the way business is being done.

Ovarian tumors can be either benign or malignant. It is the malignant ones that are cancerous.

The most common ovarian cancer is known as epithelial cancer. This cancer is the one where the abnormal growth arises from the epithelial cells. The epithelial cells are the ones covering the surfaces of the ovaries.
